Course Description

This course walks the participant through SAMHSA’s guide for Medication-Assisted Treatment in the emergency department. This guide will educate the participant on the different options available for MAT in the healthcare system. It also provides information on the different medications available for MAT and different ways to support clients receiving MAT.

SAMHSA’s “Use of Medication-Assisted Treatment in Emergency Departments” also works to dispel much of the stigma associated with MATs and it addresses many myths associated with the treatment method. This information better completes an understanding of MATs and how they may be applicable to clients in different environments and situations.

This course is intended for healthcare workers in the emergency department, addiction & recovery specialists, psychologists, counselors, and other professionals who may be working with clients who have OUDs.

Course Learning Objectives

  • Learner will understand the different options for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • Learner will know the differences between the 3 main medications used for MAT
  • Learner will know how different programs assess need and help with recovery from Opioid Use Disorders (OUDs)
  • Learner will understand different diagnostic methods for OUDs
  • Learner will understand the benefits and drawbacks of MAT

 

Course Requirements

You will be expected to review all materials provided and pass the post-test with a minimum of 80%, in order to receive your certificate of completion. You will also be required to complete a course evaluation. Once you have satisfactorily completed the post-test and submitted your evaluation, you will be able to download your certificate.
