Course Description

This course requires the participant to read and comprehend the attached article pertaining to SAMHSA’s guide on stimulant abuse and possible treatment pathways. Stimulant use disorders have long-lasting personal impacts that can result in serious psychological and physical health problems. Addiction is a pervasive and difficult to prevent issue; learning how to recognize and treat stimulant addictions is important to the long-term health of individuals and their communities. SAMHSA has provided a framework on stimulant abuse, including sections on addiction, withdrawal, and the negative impacts of stimulant abuse.

In the reading Treatment of Stimulant Use Disorders the reader will learn about various therapeutic approaches to treating stimulant abuse. Additionally, participants will learn how different approaches can be combined and molded to fit specific scenarios, as well as the pros and cons of each treatment.

This course is intended for healthcare professionals, social workers, counselors, substance abuse professionals, psychologists, and addiction specialists; it will familiarize participants with SAMHSA’s approach to stimulant use disorders and their treatments.
